Jim has been a member of the CMDA family for just more than a year but she has excelled in her work an now working on her promotion as Housekeeping Manager.

Need something cleaned?

How long have you been with CMDA?

1 year and 3 months. I started as a custodian last July 2019, and lasted for 5 months, and then on January 2020, I started training as an Admin Assistant (Nag start ako as custodian/cleaner noong July 4, 2019 and nag last for 5 months and nung January 2020 nag start ng training as Admin Assistant).

How did CMDA Cleaning Services help you in your personal life?

Since I got hired here in CMDA, it helped me in paying my bills (helped financially), and naturally I could share in paying the bills with my husband, enhanced my knowledge being an employee and as a person, and I learned how to deal with people because there are people who teach me how to be strong, separate work from personal relationships. Example is “thinking” work during work, personal relationships is done after work. (Since nag apply ako sa CMDA nakatulong ito sa mga bills (Gumaan financially),natural kahit papaano nakaka share nako sa husband ko, naenhance ang kaalaman bilang empleyado at bilang tao at natututo ako makisama at makisalamuha sa mga tao dahil may mag tuturo sayo paano ka maging matibay, ihiwalay yung trabho sa pakikipagkaibigan.sample Trabaho trabho, kaibigan after work na un.).

As an employee, what makes you unique in CMDA?

As an employee of CMDA, it teaches you to become mature, teaches you how to be knowledgeable and how to improve your life, they will see your potential and talent (not just on the position that you applied in). Because in other employers, you will only be in that position you applied for.

What are your dreams as a CMDA Employee?

I dream that all employees know the difference between our personal and professional life. We need balance, and if you have a friend who is also working with you, you also need to balance how we talk to them (as an officemate). Another thing why I dream about this is because work becomes lovely if you have peace of mind, it’s work when it’s work, and separate it from all the personal baggage we bring everyday.

Need something cleaned?

What are the challenges that you are experiencing right now? and how can CMDA Cleaning Services help you?

Now that I am transitioning from being a custodian/admin staff to a trainee of housekeeping managerial position, the challenges that I experience now are the feeling that someone is pulling you down and does not see your worth as an employee. But I can go through with it, why? Because there are people who help me and easy to approach and someone I can speak my mind to (From Ms Ivy – Service Sales Manager, Sir Troy – General Manger, up to mam Renz – President).

What is the difference between being an Admin Assistant and being a Custodian?

As a cleaner/custodian, being clean will come out natural to you, there is an SOP and there are trainings being done. As an Admin Assistant, sometimes it’s difficult but there are people diligent to teach you.

Were you looking for a particular position before you applied for a job in CMDA?

I wasn’t looking for a particular position, I just wanted to have a work and when I entered CMDA, I learned a lot and I became stronger. Before I got in at CMDA, I was working in a school as a teacher aid, so it was totally different, because before as a pre-school teacher aid there was less pressure because you were gentle in treating your students and colleagues. In CMDA, there is pressure but it helped me become stronger in life, that is what I saw here in CMDA. Before ako mag CMDA kase, sa school ako nag work and as a teacher aid ,so magkaibang magkaiba talaga, because dati as a Pre-School Teacher aid less pressure because mas malambing ang pakikitungo because mga bata ang kasama mo. Sa CMDA Naman is mas may pressure pero mas nakatulong sila sakin na mas maging matatag in life.yan ang nakita ko dito CMDA).

Do you think the pressure you are experiencing in CMDA is helping you learn more and be stronger in life?

Honestly, yes, because I am not really that strong, but I am getting there, and it was only now that I felt this kind of pressure in my 41 years of existence becuase CMDA saw that I can get past through my weaknesses, especially with handling people.  (Honestly, yes. Because hindi naman ako ganon KATIBAY/KATATAG… “but i’m getting there” and ngayon ko lang lang naramdaman yung ganitong pressure in my 41 years of existance dahil nakita ng CMDA na kaya ko pang lagpasan ang aking mga kahinaan o makakayahan lalo na sa pag handle ng tao.)

Would you recommend others to work in CMDA?

Yes, I recommend working in CMDA, because they can reach the potential beyond what they already know.

How To: Clean Up Your Home After Flood

How To: Clean Up Your Home After Flood

Cleaning up your own home is quite a challenge already, much more if you need it cleaned after it got flooded. A flooded home is a disaster in itself, but something you can manage with the right people and equipment.

Every year, the Philippines encounter 20 to 30 storms and typhoon, not including the days with heavy monsoon rains. Despite the speed of home development and road improvements, there are still homes that experience being flooded yearly. Here are some steps that can help you clean up your place after it gets flooded.

Need something cleaned?

START WITH SAFETY IN MIND

There are a lot of safety issues when your place starts to get flooded. You have to keep in mind the safety of your family, pets and other property. Typically some Filipinos start moving appliances to their second floor area (if they have) or start raising the base of their furnitures and appliances so that flood waters will not destroy them. Apart from these, make sure to remember these:

  • Switch off your circuit breaker to avoid electrocution and damage to your electronics
  • Wear boots to avoid wading in flood water during flood and during cleaning
  • Wear rubber gloves to prevent your hands from touching dirty flood water during the flood and during cleaning
  • Wear a mask to avoid inhaling bacteria and aerosol found in flood waters
  • Keep children and pets away from flood and debris left after the flood

Some of the hazards you can encounter cleaning after a flood includes:

  • Leptospirosis (still present even if there are very little flood water left)
  • Tetanus (bacteria called Clostridium tetani is very common in soil and flood water)
  • Electrocution
  • Cuts and bruises from glass and sharp debris washed in by the flood
  • Diarrhea (if you accidentally touch your mouth without washing your hands after cleaning)
  • Intestinal parasites like amoeba and worms
  • Respiratory diseases brought about by spores rising from the flood

Some possible property damage you can encounter after a flood:

  • Burnt out busted fuse in breakers and appliances
  • Water damaged engines in cars
  • Watermarks on walls and furniture
  • Floor erossion

WATER WASH

As soon as you have determined that it is safe to clean your place already, and after wearing safety equipments like gloves, boots and face mask, get a water hose and plug it to your faucet. Start spraying water from inner most part of your home going outside to wash away mud and dirt. Since water got those in, water should get it out. Make sure your curcuit breakers are still switched off so that you won’t have to worry about your power outlets. Use flash light if there is not enough light to work with, or better if you do this during daytime.

It may sound like a joke that after water comes in your home, you use water to flush it out, but this is easier than using a plastic broom or walis tambo to sweep out the debris. If the surface is still muddy and dries up, it would be harder to remove them, so keeping the mud and dirt wet will help you in cleaning and keeping your surfaces protected.

Flood in your home would most likely leave thick mud that is hard to remove. It is easier and faster to clean it using water.

SOAP AND RINSE

Once your place is clear of mud and other flood debris, you will then need to wash your flooded surfaces with soap. Combine 2 part all-purpose cleaner and 1 part bleach (chlorine or chlorox) with 10 parts water, and use this mixture to soap up surfaces. This will be your liquid cleaner and disinfectant. Spread out the mixture and scrub a little to remove other dirt that wasn’t washed away by the water.

This soap and bleach mixture can help greatly reduce the amount of bacteria and parasite eggs on surfaces, ensuring that there won’t be any health hazards left by the flood. Too much soap would make rinsing hard and too much bleach may cause respiratory problems, so it is best to keep these 2 dilluted.

Rinse surfaces to remove the soap and bleach by spraying water again. Rinse thoroughly to remove any other residue, be it the soap or flood debris.

MOP DRY

Finally, at this point, things will look back in order, except everything is wet with clean water. Using a mop, wipe all floor surfaces, and a clean wash cloth to wipe walls to get rid of the remaining water. Mop at the same direction – from the innermost part of your home going out to your main door or gate.

Some traditional Filipinos use plastic brooms or walis tambo to sweep away water, though effective, can cause back problems and re-contamination. If you use plastic brooms or walis tambo to remove dirt, chances are, those same dirt are still in them, causing the newly cleaned surface to be dirty again.

Flood affects up to 700 areas across 6 regions in the Philippines, with damages amounting to up to P1.37 billion. (source)

FLOOD PROOF YOUR HOME

Finally your place is cleaned, and you don’t want to go through the same ordeal again, not anytime soon, not ever. Though you can hire a professional cleaning company to do your home cleaning after a flood, it is still best to make measures to prevent it in the first place. Here are some tips to help you flood proof your home:

  • Sandbag your entrance
  • Elevate your garage floor
  • Keep your ground floor exclusively for your garage only (all other rooms on the second floor or higher)
  • Join a clean up drive in your place to declog drainages

Home Cleaning: 5 Best Tips in Cleaning Bathroom Tiles

Home Cleaning: 5 Best Tips in Cleaning Bathroom Tiles

Cleaning bathroom tiles is one of the most challenging cleaning task at home or office, most especially if it is your first time to clean it for a long while.  You would have thought it was easy at first, until you notice those grime and stains won’t come off.

We have asked the experts on what are the best ways in cleaning bathroom tiles for you. Below, you can see what commercial products you can use to bring back the shine in your tiles.

Need something cleaned?

Commercial Bathroom Tile Cleaners

First off in our list is one that you can frequently see in most grocery stores. Commercial bathroom tile cleaners like Mr. Muscle or Domex do live up to their names, if applied properly. They have the right ingredients that can really remove grimes (surfactants) and stains (bleaching agent).

So how do you properly use them? Spray them evenly on bathroom walls and floor, and soak for 10-15 minutes. Scrubbing it immediately, which is a common mistake, will not help at all because the chemicals need some time to separate the grime and stains. After soaking, use your scrubbers or brush to remove grime and stains. Rinse the walls and floor thoroughly.

Pros:

  • Easy to use
  • Can be used on toilet bowls, kitchen sink and counters

Cons:

  • A bit pricey compared to other products for cleaning bathroom tiles
  • Some brands may leave a stain due to coloring
  • May have strong odor (not safe for those with respiratory problems)
  • Very acidic and may irritate your skin on prolonged exposure
  • Must be rinsed off completely (not safe for pets)

Vingegar

This is a cost effective way of getting those stains and grimes out of your bathroom tiles. On the floor, pour some vinegar and spread. Let it soak for about 10-15 minutes. For walls, stick and soak toilet paper damped with vinegar on stained tiles and tile grout for 10-15 minutes as well. Scrub with your usual all purpose cleaner and scrubber/brush, and then rinse.

Different types of vinegar have different concentrations of Acetic Acid (chemical name of vinegar). So if you are wondering which type of vinegar is the best, go for the commercial white cane vinegar which normally are more acidic compared to Apple Cider vinegar.

Pros:

  • Economical
  • Colorless (does not leave a different colored stain)
  • Gentle on your hand
  • Organic
  • Safe for pets

Cons:

  • Strong odor
  • may require repeat application as acid strength varries

Need something cleaned?

WD-40

Surprisingly, WD-40 is also good at removing tile grimes and stains. Aside from lubricating joints and removing rust on metal surfaces, you can use WD-40 to loosen up stains and grimes on your bathroom tiles. Most of the stains in your bathroom tiles are made by hard water deposits or lime deposits. WD-40 breaks the bond between those deposits and the tile surface, making it easier to scrub away.

To use WD-40, spray a small amount on affected tile surface. Let it soak for 5-10 minutes. Scrub using your scrubber or brush and only rinse when you are already satisfied with the cleaning. Rinsing it too early will remove the WD-40 and it would be difficult to remove the remaining stain without re-applying WD-40.

Pros:

  • Easy to use
  • Works faster
  • Colorless (does not leave a different colored stain)
  • Gentle on your hand
  • Organic
  • Safe for pets

Cons:

  • A bit expensive compared to other cleaning products
  • May leave a particular odor
  • If not rinsed well, surface will be slippery

Baking Soda and Liquid Soap

This is not a 2-in-1 entry, you will need both baking soda and liquid soap to make it work. If you are at it, this would be a great experiment in chemistry. You will need a ratio of 2:1:1 of baking soda, liquid soap and water. This means you will need 2 cups of baking soda for every cup of liquid soap and water. For starters, you can mix half a cup of baking soda, 1/4 cup liquid soap and 1/4 cup of water. Mix evenly and spray or spread on tile surfaces. Let it soak for 15-20 minutes and then scrub. Rinse thoroughly and that’s about it.

You might be wondering what kind of liquid soap is the best. Experts have weighed in and found dishwashing liquid soap to be the most effective.

Pros:

  • Economical
  • does not leave a different colored stain
  • Gentle on your hand
  • Safe for pets

Cons:

  • may be difficult to mix
  • takes more soaking time

Steam Cleaning

Technically a technique or equipment to use together with any of the above materials to make bathroom tile cleaning easier. Steam has been proven effective in cleaning surfaces such as clothing and walls. Steam helps to loosen up grimes, dirt and stains stuck on your tiles.

If you have a steam cleaner already, this will be very helpful in cleaning your bathroom tiles. If you don’t have one, close your bathroom windows and toilet seat, turn off your exhaust fan/vent, and then open your hot water to fill in your pail or bath tub. Close the bathroom door and wait until your tub or pail is full. You can do other chores while leaving your bathroom closed for steaming. After 20 minutes, use the cleaning material you often use for your bathroom tiles cleaning or any of the above methods for a faster cleaning and soaking time.

Pros:

  • Sanitizes your surfaces as well
  • Colorless (does not leave a different colored stain)
  • Safe for pets

Cons:

  • Depends heavily on availability of steam cleaner or hot water
  • May cause burns and scalding if not properly done

Some bathroom tiles require different treatment, so feel free to combine any two or three methods mentioned above to help cleaning your bathroom tiles easier. 3. Wash Cloth (Basahan)
  4. Mop (rotary or scrubber)
  5. Dishwashing Liquid

Need something cleaned?

VACUUM CLEANER

You would always want dust and dirt to be collected on one area, or in a bag, so that they do not fly off to other spaces in your home. A vacuum cleaner not only does this, but also makes cleaning easier and faster. Experts recommend those with a blower function so you could use it as a dryer as well.

There are even specialized vacuum cleaners that help clean the air while cleaning your floor. Hydrovacuum cleaners have been in the market for some time already and they do provide more features than the regular ones. What experts love most about hydrovacs is adding oil essences in the water basin to provide fragrant clean air around the area.

ROTARY/SCRUBBER MOP

One of the greatest innovations in housekeeping is the mop. You can find different mops with different mop heads and handles, but experts recommend rotary or scrubber mops. They are self drying and self cleaning, which makes mopping easier and faster. You should have any one of this mop types to help you clean up spills and wash floors.

MICROFIBER WASH CLOTHES

Though any washcloth can do, it is better to get the best “Basahan” out there. If you can find the ones that they use for car wash that can absorb more water, the better. One of the basics, and probably the majority of tasks, in a house cleaning is wiping down surfaces, so having different wash clothes for each area of the house is ideal.

Washclothes come in different colors. This can help you identifying which part of the house you use it by designating a color. For example, you can use yellow on kitchen surfaces, green on table tops, blue on bathroom walls, and so on.

Where to buy: Grocery/supermarket, Automotive shops, Lazada

SPRAY BOTTLES

One of the great trends and concepts in the 21st century is minimalism, and that includes housekeeping. Say goodbye to large pails and buckets and use pre mixed cleaning liquids stored in spray bottles instead. Pre mix your dishwashing liquid, toilet bowl cleaners, all purpose cleaners, disinfectant, and bleach into spray bottles and they are now ready to use 24/7.

One of the benefits of using a spray bottle instead of dippers is the ease of dispersing water and cleaners with just a twist of the adjustment nozzle. It also lets you control your liquid cleaning products’ consumption by pre mixing the right amount with water in a bottle.

DISHWASHING LIQUID

What do All purpose cleaners, car wash shampoo, and dishwashing liquid have in common? Surfactant. All of them have surfactants, only in different concentration. You can have all the benefits by just buying dishwashing liquid because you can use it from cleaning the dishes up to cleaning your toilet.

The secret to using surfactants like dishwashing liquid is soaking the surface with a mixture of surfactant and water. Soaking helps the surfactant loosen up more dirt and oil, making cleaning easier. Longer soaking time means you will be scrubbing less.
